Perú – Lake Titicaca and Cuzco Adventure

ITINERARY (from/to Cusco)

Day 1 – Morning transfer to board Tourist Bus to Puno, on the shores of Lake TitiCaca; about 400 KM (250 mls). En route you will visit the Church in Andahuaylillas, known as the Sistine Chapel of America; Raqchi, Inka ruins with the Temple to Wiracocha. You will have lunch on the way. En route you will be able to observe various camelid reserves (llamas, alpacas, guanacos) and pass the town of La Raya, highest point on our drive at 4,300 mts asl – 14,200 ft asl. Upon arrival in Puno transfer to Hotel.

Day 2 – Morning pick up for full day excursion on the TitiCaca Lake, highest navigable lake in the world. You will visit the floating islands of the Uros (made of interwoven reeds) and its people, descendants of a millenarian race unified to the Aymara lineage. Then we continue to visit the island and native community of Taquile, who speak and are identified with the Quechua culture. These people are direct descendants of the Sun empire and preserve their culture and traditions. Here you will have lunch. Return to Puno and hotel.

Day 3 – Morning departure to visit the necropolis of Sillustani overlooking the Umayo Lake. Here you will see pre-Inka Chullpas, funerary towers. Stop shortly in the commercial center of Juliaca before continuing south toward Cusco stopping in Pukará, ceramic center. Drive through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo where you board the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). Overnight.

Day 4 – Morning ride up the zig-zag Hiram Bingham Rd to visit the citadel of MACHU PICCHU with bilingual guide. After the guided visit time to explore on your own until time to return to Aguas Calientes to board the train to Ollantaytambo, transfer to busses for return trip to Cusco. Transfer to the hotel Andes de America or similar.
